History of the Fair
|
The history of the Oak Ridges Club Family Fair is one that is long and storied.
As with many communities many years ago, the Town of Oak Ridges and surrounding areas would host a country fair. It was an agriculture-based fair held for years and it was able to bring the small farming communities together.
Into the fifties, the Fair evolved into one that was hosted by the Oak Ridges Lions Club. For several years, the Lions Club would bring the community together for 2 or 3 days of fun at the corners of Yonge St and King Side Road. Old 16mm film from the those days is still around showing hundreds of people coming to the Fair to enjoy mechanical rides, midway games, live music and much more. Unfortunately, this vision of the Oak Ridges Fair died away about the time Oak Ridges was amalgamated with the Town of Richmond Hill in 1971.
Fast-forward to October 2003. Chris Stewart, a resident of Oak Ridges, had the idea that he wanted to bring the Oak Ridges community together. Together with the Oak Ridges Lions Club, the Oak Ridges Lions Club Family Fair was re-born.

Feature Presentation: Earth Rangers
|
The Oak Ridges Lions Club is proud to present the Earth Rangers. Earth Rangers are an interactive team who are sure to engage your passion for animals and the environment.
“Earth Rangers believes that children have both the power and desire to change the world and the right to inherit a healthy planet. We are an innovative charitable organization with a mission to inspire children with a lasting passion to build a better future – a green future in which today’s children are transformed from being the chief inheritors of environmental damage into a powerful and determined part of the solution.
We are combining kids’ passion for animals and the environment with their love of entertainment, to engage and motivate millions of children.
Through our live shows children gain the knowledge, skills and tools necessary to have a genuine and measurable impact on the natural world and their own future.”
“Come out and meet the Animal Ambassadors, enjoy green-themed activities and learn more about conservation and maintaining a sustainable lifestyle.”
The Animal Ambassadors will be at the fair on Saturday, June 20th.

The Oak Ridges Lions Club is proud to present Sciensational Sssnakes!!!
“Sciensational Sssnakes!! provides hands-on education about reptiles and amphibians for the young and the young at heart. Our shows feature an informal lecture about the animals, their ecology and conservation issues as well as a session in which participants are able to interact, touch and hold the animals.
Our programs feature live animals that are safe, friendly and easy to handle. Many of them are native Ontario species, some of which are now endangered in the wild, and rarely seen. Sciensational Sssnakes!! maintains the most complete collection of Ontario reptile and amphibian species in the province, which allows unparalleled opportunities to learn about these animals and the challenges we face to ensure their survival in the future. “
